Keilani, the 2026 K12 National Cook-Off People’s Choice Winner

What happens when creativity, culinary talent, and determination come together in the kitchen? Just ask Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville (TVAH) student Keilani.

TVAH is proud to celebrate 10th grade student Keilani, who was named a People’s Choice Winner in the 2026 K12 National Cook-Off! Through her impressive cooking skills and the support of voters across the country, Keilani earned this special recognition and proved that passion and perseverance can take students to exciting new heights.

After advancing through a competitive field of student chefs nationwide, Keilani showcased her talent during the live finals held on June 5, 2026, at Kitchen of Purpose in Arlington, Virginia. Her creativity, confidence, and passion for cooking helped her stand out among an exceptional group of finalists.

The K12 National Cook-Off challenges students in grades 6–12 to think creatively, cook under pressure, and showcase their culinary talents.

In the first round, students created an original recipe that could be prepared within 60 minutes and included five required elements:

A source of protein

  • A naturally red ingredient
  • A round-shaped ingredient
  • A spice or herb (excluding salt and pepper)
  • A creamy ingredient

Students prepared their dishes, documented their cooking process, and submitted their recipes for judging. From hundreds of submissions nationwide, five finalists were selected to travel to Arlington, Virginia, for the live championship event.

In the championship round, Keilani was randomly assigned four ingredients to feature in her dish:

  • Duck Breast
  • Farro
  • Spinach
  • Apples

She impressed the judges with her creativity, confidence, and ability to transform the assigned ingredients into a polished final dish.

The competition continued with a dessert challenge, where Keilani drew fresh peaches as her featured ingredient. With only 30 minutes to create her dish, she crafted a delicious caramelized peach and ice cream dessert that showcased her creativity and quick thinking.

The People’s Choice Award is given to the finalist who receives the highest number of eligible public votes, making it a special recognition from the K12 community. As the 2026 K12 National Cook-Off People’s Choice Winner, Keilani received a $250 prize for her achievement.

Competitions like the K12 National Cook-Off give students opportunities to develop valuable life skills while pursuing their passions. Participants build skills such as:

  • Creativity
  • Time management
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Confidence

Whether students aspire to careers in the culinary arts or simply enjoy cooking for family and friends, opportunities like the K12 National Cook-Off encourage them to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and celebrate their unique talents.

Food has a unique way of bringing people together, sparking creativity, and creating memorable experiences. Keilani’s achievement is a wonderful example of what can happen when passion, hard work, and perseverance come together.
