Meet Our Administrators
Catherine Groven, Head of School at Texas Virtual Academy Hallsville, holds Masters degree in Education Administration and has over 15 years experience as an educator in both the brick and mortar and virtual setting. She began her career as a middle and high school math teacher, then she moved into administration where she has served as an assistant principal and principal prior to her current role. Mrs. Groven likes the interaction with families and staff as well as the support she is able to give with the tools available in our virtual setting.
Shelby Newman, High School Principal, has been with K12 since 2015 and has served in several different roles, including classroom teacher, department chair, and assistant principal. She is passionate about student engagement and success, and works to make sure that students are given the individual support that they need to be successful in their current classes, as well as in the future. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas State University and Masters degrees from Dominican University and Liberty University. She holds certifications in Generalist EC-6, English Language Arts and Reading 4-8 and 8-12, Social Studies 8-12, and History 8-12.
Daphne Troxell, Elementary/Middle School Principal, has been in the field of education for over 18 years and with K12 for 8 of those years. She has experiences in education, curriculum development, instructional coaching, and leadership coaching. Daphne received her BS in Secondary Education in Mathematics from Grand Canyon University and is working on a MEd in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University. She holds a certificate in 7-12 Secondary Math in Arizona and a 4-8 Generalist certificate in Texas.
Amanda Rollert, Assistant High School Principal, has served the state of Texas and the southwest region of the United States for the past 25+ years in both the public and private sectors as an educator, manager, and trainer. She helped facilitate the growth, development, and regional expansion for two different corporations before she joined K12 5 years ago. She has served K12 as an Intervention teacher, Department Lead, and Head of School. Building teams of distinction has been a strength for Amanda at every juncture in her career and continues to be a platform she stands upon today.
Kyla Pickrell, Assistant Elementary/Middle School Principal, is in her 6th year with K12, having been a teacher and a team lead before joining the TVAH Administrative team. Kyla earned her B.S. and her Master in Management from Liberty University. She is certified to teach EC-6, 4-8, and ESL. Kyla has a passion to help students grow and achieve education success in the virtual environment.
