Who We Are

Our School at a Glance

Beginning with the 2018–2019 school year, Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville (TVAH) will serve students statewide in grades 3–12. As with all Texas public schools, TVAH is only available to Texas residents.

TVAH offers a comprehensive online program, including a rigorous curriculum, an innovative learning management system, a full suite of academic and support services, and career technical education (CTE) courses for high school students.

Certified Teachers and Supplemental Offline Materials

All TVAH students will interact with one or more Texas-certified teachers (depending on grade level) and communicate regularly with their teachers through email, telephone, online synchronized sessions, and direct instruction. Teachers will work with students and Learning Coaches (a parent or other responsible adult) in core courses to oversee and assist the students as they work through the year's curriculum. In addition, the school sponsors field trips and events across the state to help students connect with their teachers and other students.

Each student receives hands-on instructional materials that will complement the interactive online elements of the student’s courses. The number and type of offline materials varies by grade and by course.

Dedicated Teacher Support

In grades 3–5, the "Learning Coach" (a parent or other responsible adult) works closely with the teacher to help facilitate the student's progress and to modify the student’s pace and schedule as needed. At the middle and high school levels, the Learning Coach will be less involved as students take more responsibility for their own learning and work more often at a collective pace with their classmates in teacher-led sessions. The amount of time a Learning Coach must spend with a student will vary with each student.

Personalized Learning, Public School Accountability

TVAH allows students to learn in the ways that are right for them. The key is a personalized approach that focuses on the student’s unique learning strengths, needs, goals, and interests. In addition to providing personalized learning, TVAH provides the structure, administrative support, oversight, accountability, and state testing required of all Texas public schools.
